The building that now stand as the Royal Hotel was originally constructed as a home for nobles, but it has not always been used as such. Built in 2E 455 by Marcus Corvus it was sold shortly after and turned into an Asylum for the insane.

The Pell's Gate Asylum was a leader in medical advances and treatment of the mentally impaired. It was home to patients from around Cyrodiil and at it's height housed over 200 patients and a staff of 30 prominant doctors.

The building was split into two sections with staff occupying the upper floors and patients housed in the basement sections. The majority of patients were housed in large wards with the exception of violent patients that were kept in separate cells. Medical proceedures were performed in the lower basement near the morgue.

After a hundred years of operation the Asylum was suddenly closed. The official reason given for this is that funds ran dry. The building was falling into a state of disrepair. It was too costly to fix and the the building had become to dangerous to inhabit. Patients were removed to care homes and Asylums around Cyrodiil and the Asylum closed it doors for the final time.

It stood in a state of decay and disrepair for almost a hundred years, closed off to the public until it was purchased and renovated into the hotel it is today.

Displayed here are medical implements used in the Asylum at it's height.

The White Maiden

The Royal Hotel was built in 2E 455 by Marcus Corvus, a wealthy minor noble from the Imperial City. During this period Pell's Gate was the playground of the wealthy and noble and most buildings were built as family mansions. Upon completion Marcus and his wife, Trina, moved into their new home. But their happiness was short lived. After just a few years Trina threw herself from a window on the top floor and fell to her death. Her bereaved husband sold the home and moved back to the Imperial City.

The building went through a few incarnations before becoming the hotel it is today. But the story of the White Maiden has remained constant throughout and so have reports that Trina Corvus still roams the upper floors of the hotel. Witnesses to her ghost describe a beautiful dark haired young woman dressed in a formal white gown.

The eminent artist, Don Monis visited the hotel for a short while. One morning he approached the reception desk, ashen faced. He told of seeing a beautiful maiden walking down the second floor corridor in the small hours of the morning, vanishing right into a wall. The hotel staff told him of the legend of a White Maiden and how she had commited suicide. Monis was intrigued about the forlorn ghost and taken with her beauty. Over the next few months he remained at the hotel and set about painting a portrait of the White Maiden.

It is not known whether Monis ever actually saw the apparition again, but the portrait he painted of her hangs on the second floor. Monis died shortly after completing the portrait. Since the portrait was hung there have been no more reports of the ghost wondering the hallways, although there have been a few reports of the ghost appearing around her portrait. Hotel staff are happy to keep the portrait hanging in such a quiet area as they believe it keeps the White Maiden from roaming the rest of the hotel and scaring guests.
Quest for the Missing Septim Crown

You now have a Master Key to access all the offices and staff areas in the Gallery. Time to meet all the staff. Speak to all the staff listed in the letter the Curator left on your desk. The result will be two leads to follow up on.

1) Bronwyn will tell you she supects the Janitor and Artemus are behind the theft. She suspects the Janitor is a skooma addict and is sure there must be skooma in his office to prove it. Go to the Janitors Closet in the Pottery Display. On a shelf is a vial of skooma. Time to confront the Janitor. Speak to him, ask him how he can afford the skooma. He will confess to stealing money from offices. Rachle had told you that money was going missing. Now you know why. You now have a choice. If you blab to the Curator the Janitor will be immediately fired. You will not see him again unless you go down to Elm Street. If you choose not to tell the Curator, the Janitor stays. Neither choice affects the plot too much, however you will loose future interaction and conversation with the Janitor if you tell and he is a charismatic sort.

2) The Curator will let you know that Donovan received funds for his expedition, but wont say where they are from. Find Donovan and ask him where he got the funds. Go to the Royal Hotel as he directs, speak to the Receptionist and find and talk to Arnis Raymon. We now know that this lead is a dead end. Return to the Gallery.

Whenever you reach a dead end you need to check your Pigeon hole in your office. So go there and you will find a note. Make sure you take all notes with you as it helps keep track and avoids confusion with too many notes in your Pigeon hole. Seems Hana has something to tell you. Go find her, if not in her office, then wondering around the Pottery Display. Hana tells you she saw Solomon that in the Curators Office that night. Time to ask Solomon what he was doing there.

Find Solomon and ask him and make your choice on whether to tell him who saw him. You can pursue this lead no further for the moment, time to head back to your office.

Looks like you have work. The Curator wants you to go to Woodland Village, find Rupern Wiltern and fire him. So hop to it! His house should be easy enough to find in Woodland Village, talk to his old mother and be careful how you fire him. Once this task is complete go back to the Gallery.

Go to your office and check your pigeon hole again. There is a note, seems Hana has some work for you. Go to her office. Seems she is not there, but there is something, a shoe sitting in a pool of blood. Uh oh! Time to search for Hana and see if she is okay.

You will find Hana examining the fish in the Aquarium. Examine the glass of the aquarium to bring up a message box. Time to question everyone.

Bronwyn has some information, she thinks that Hana rejected Solomon one to many times and he snapped. She suggests you search her office. Go to Hanas office and search the garbage bin on the corner. You will find a scrap of burned paper. Time to confront Solomon. He of course denies it and you havent got solid proof. Head back to your office, maybe something new cropped up.

Something did, you have a note from the Curator. She just had a thought, the real crown was replaced with a fake one that could only have been brought from the Gallery gift shops. Did you think to ask if they remember selling it to a member of staff? Well? Huh, huh! Did you?

Head to the one gift shop that sells fake crowns and ask the owner Greenscale. Turns out he does remember a staff member buying a crown, that guy who manages the Egyptian exhibit. Could only be Artemus. Head over to his office in the Egytian Display and confront him. He doesnt deny it, he brought it for his sister, he says. Interesting
but you cannot prove it so head back to your office.

There is another note, seems Rachel wants you to pick up a book for her. Head over to the Town Hall and pick up the book. Return and give it to Rachel in her office in the Hall of Masterpieces. Head back to your office and check your pigeon hole.

You have a new note. It also seems that Greenscale remembered someone else who purchased a fake crown! Head off and confront Derin. Then talk to Solomon. Up to you if you want to try and trick him. But you still cant prove a thing so head back to your office.

Seems now Donovan has a task for you. Go to Lakewood Village, find Marcus and interview him. Return to the Gallery and give Donovan your results. Now head back to your office.

Look at your desk
awww
how nice, the staff got you some chocolates and a welcome card! Dont eat the chocolates! Instead read the new note in your pigeon hole, seems someone is trying to kill you! Now
it
is
personal! Maybe you are getting too close to something?

Now head off and question everyone about the chocolates and card you received. No one in the Gallery confesses to sending them, but it turns out Artemus recognises those chocolates. They are Salmo chocolates and only sold in one place, the General Store.

Head to the General Store and question the owner. Yup, he sure does remember who bought those chocolates. Time to get some answers from that little weasel Solomon! Head back to the Gallery.

You will find Solomon hanging around the Oblivion Display.

Uh oh! Examine his body carefully. You will find sections you can activate that will bring up a message box. When you examine his right hand you will find some blond hairs. You can go and talk to everyone about Solomon, however it is not necessary. Best thing to do is go and search his office.

Ah ha! He left a note
.but it is in Daedric. Remember Artemus told you that Solomon spoke and wrote fluent Daedra? It looks like it could be very important. Follow the advice and go talk to the Curator.

The Curator suggests you try the Cloak n Dagger Tavern, perhaps there is someone there who can translate. So off to the Cloak n Dagger Tavern. There you will see two dremora, one will translate for you. The note says 'I fear for my life, so I have hidden a full confession in my grave.'

From here go to the Undead Display in the Gallery and search the graves. You will find Solomons grave stone, activate it to find his full confession. Read it and you are given a hint to find where the crown is, in the aquarium.

Go to Derins office and get the aquarium key from his desk, also grab the water breathing scroll. Go upstairs to the first man hole, use the scroll and enter the tank. Once inside swim to behind the sunken ship. There is a chest, open it to find the Septim Crown!

Now you have the crown and a full confession, take these to the Curator to end the quest. Congrats! You have finished the Quest to find the Missing Septim Crown and solved a few murders along the way. Make sure to check out the town gallows to see the fruits of your labors.

Extra, if you pick up any of the crumpled notes in Bronwyn's office you will find out someone has been writing nasty letters to her. Ask her about it and she will give you her background story and ask you to find out who is writing them. Go to Artemus' office, find a similiar note. Confront Artemus, then go and tell Browyn.
